ROOM #01

Alda Giuseppina Angela Merini has been an Italian poet, aphorist and writer, scarred by a turbulent childhood and an equally painful life. At the age of 15, Alda already debuted as an author but in 1947 she was institutionalized due to her mental instabilities. From that moment, Alda’s whole life has been characterized by difficult and long periods of isolation, caused by her institutionalization in several clinics which led her daughters to be taken away from her and given into custody to other families. During her phases of mental stability and illnesses, maybe caused by her bipolar disturb, Alda has devoted her-self to intense moments of writings which ultimately culminated in memorable works. Thanks to her poetry production, Alda Merini will be remembered as one of the most famous and important Italian poetesses.
